across the entire satellite arc. It‘s not
necessary to first configure a satellite
in the signal analyzer or in the motors
memory! Every satellite will make itself
known through red/bright red to white
spots on a vertical line. After just a
short familiarization time, the installer
will find it easy to recognize the more
critical satellites based on its appear-
ance.
Figure 5 shows the waterfall diagram
for a correctly aligned antenna. In this
case it‘s a 100cm offset dish with a DiS-
EqC 1.2 motor. The antenna is located
in Portugal and there are walls that
inhibit reception beyond 40 degrees
east and west. The diagram shows the
movement of the antenna from 30.0W
to 40.0E and then back again. It‘s in-
teresting to note that the images are
not perfectly symmetrical. This is be-
cause the DiSEqC motor was able to
drive faster to the left than it could to
the right.
Popular positions such as 19.2E, 13.0E
or 28.2E can easily be found in the dia-
gram. Since the motor can move at a
relatively constant speed (as long as
you don‘t change directions), satellites
that were not immediately recognized
can be identified through extrapolation.
This, for example, is exactly the case
with the satellite between 19.2E and
13.0E: the vertical line is precisely in
the middle - this could only be the 16.0
position!

Figure 3: Box-mounted web cam pointed at the SPAUN SPAROS 609‘s display
Figure 4: The new software, adapted for the SPAUN SPAROS 609. The motor turned
from Hispasat at 30.0W to Astra2 at 28.2E and back again to 30.0W
Figure 5: A perfectly aligned motor. The diagram presents an arc from 30.0W to 43.0E
and back. As you can see, the stronger transponders are presented in red regardless
of whether they are in the middle or on the outside edges. This shows that this
system is perfectly set up.
